A Day at the Zoo

Posted on: September 14, 2009

zooleopardAs a little girl my parents always used to take me to the Stoneham Zoo so to keep old traditions alive I have started taking Isabella to the zoo every Labor Day weekend. OK so this was only her 2nd Labor Day, but we’re starting that tradition!

If you’re from this area then you are familiar with the controversary of both the Franklin Park and the Stoneham Zoo possibly being shut down due to the governor’s lovely budget cuts! The fate of those poor innocent animals lies in the hands of these lying politicians so I pray this won’t happen.

But enough of the politics, on with the fun stuff! Despite the limited number of “Zoo” animals at the zoo we had a blast! The weather was ideal in the mid 70’s and there was not a cloud in the sky which is surprising considering the summer we’ve had.

We visited all of the animals – wolves, bears, birds, mountain lion, coyotes, etc. But the favorites were the ‘flying’ monkey that we went back to visit several times and the yak which I think Isabella just liked because of its silly name. Oh yeah, we also watched the leopard who gave Isabella the notion that when you take a bath you MUST splash around as much as possible — thanks leopard, Mommy now gets soaked everytime she takes a bath!

We had an amazing day and if you’re from this area then please visit either of the zoos — they need your donations and support!
