The Flu

Posted on: November 14, 2009

Hi everyone! I know you’ve all been wondering where Minnie Mama has been and I am sorry for the unexplained absence, but the flu bug hit our house! It just showed up totally unannounced and uninvited, it’s almost like an in-law! Ugh!

My poor baby has been sick since Wednesday with a high fever that comes and go along with a strong cough, but before you all jump to conclusions No its NOT Swine Flu! I already called the pediatrician and she said it sounds like a bad flu bug, but thats all…phew! We did get the flu shot, but apparently it didn’t help us this time. Oh yeah and Isabella is teething — its been fun in our house this week!

So this brings me to my question — how do you feel about the Swine Flu vaccine? Will you be vaccinating your children? Honestly, I am not sure if we will / will not be vaccinating Isabella so I truly would love to learn your opinions either way.

No matter what you’re thoughts on vaccinating, I hope you all stay healthy!Ā  šŸ™‚

glad you are feeling better. I have been stressed and worried that my little guy (11 months old) will get the flu and I wasn’t sure what to do. I went back and forth about getting the vaccine for him and then his dr office didnt even have it. I talked to friends of mine and watched the news and got really worried. Finally, my husband and I decided we would try to find the vaccine for him. I was told by drs and friends who are nurses in NICUs at different hospitals that it was safe and they were getting it for their kids. It was made the same way as the seasonal flu shot. The seasonal flu shot actually has 3 strains in it that they feel will be the most prevelant for a given year. If they had know the H1N1 would be so big it would have just been in the seasonal flu vaccine. Cam got the first dose of the perservative free vaccine about a week ago and has been doing fine. He’s only 11 months so they give 2 doses. No reaction and he hasn’t gotten the flu. I don’t even know if i’ll be able to get him a second dose but I thought 1 was better than none. It’s a tough decision and definitely a personal choice. Good luck with your decision and stay healthy!

Hi Krissy,

Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on my blog post. I really appreciate it!

I am so happy to hear that your little Cam hasn’t caught the flu yet this season — fingers crossed that he doesn’t!

Isabella did have the flu shot (2 last year and 1 this year), but now I am struggling with the h1n1 decision — is that the same shot your son had?

Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving! šŸ™‚

Thank you — we’re all much better now! šŸ™‚

What you say about that shot makes total sense, but at the same time I am not sure if its a risk worth taking? Ugh, such a hard choice! However, at the moment my pediatrician’s office doesn’t have it for my daughter’s age group so I guess I am off the hook for now! lol

I’ve missed reading your blog so will be checking in on it today! šŸ™‚

Oh man!! Sorry you’re all sick! I hope it passes soon. I personally wouldn’t give anyone I know the H1N1 vaccine, i just feel like they kinda pulled it out of their asses-for a lack of better term. I don’t trust it enough.

I miss your comments on my blog, stay healthy!!
