Animal Kingdom Lodge

Posted on: March 9, 2010

Before I continue on with my posts about our Disney World vacation, I just wanted to share with all of you where we stayed. We stayed at the amazing Animal Kingdom Lodge! If you are not familiar with this property then I do suggest you check it out as it’s totally awesome.

We’ve  stayed here several times as it’s one of our favorites and every time we go back it continues to exceed our expectations. This resort is designed with an African Serengeti theme so there’s a rustic feel to it while still remaining to be super chic. It has several gigantic swimming pools; several on-site restaurants for casual or elegant dining; an awesome gift shop; activities for the kids and adults to enjoy; and so much more!

There are several different room types at this resort — one bedroom hotel style rooms; studio units; 1-2 bedroom units; and Grand Villa units which are large enough for your whole family and then some!

We always reserve a one bedroom as it works best for us. Isabella can nap / go to bed early while Mommy & Daddy unwind in the living room; have company over; etc. without worrying about waking Isabella. However, we typically reserve just a standard view room as it’s less expensive points wise, but this time we were lucky and received a complimentary upgrade to a one bedroom Savannah view unit! It’s set up exactly how our standard one bedroom unit is as there’s a full-sized kitchen equipped w/ everything you need to cook your meals (if you wish, but I prefer dining out — Mommy’s on vacation too!); a full-sized living room equipped w/ a sleeper sofa, chair, flat screen TV and DVD player; bedroom with a King sized bedroom; and a huge bathroom w/ a whirlpool tub. All of the countertops are granite, the appliances are stainless; and there’s a huge wrap around balcony so you can see all of the animals up close.  And in my opinion one of the best features – a washer and dryer in the room! If you have kids then you understand what a huge deal this is. Not only can you take care of your laundry before  you go home, but you can pack super light and just do a few loads of laundry during your trip!

Since we always reserve a one bedroom unit, the only difference this time was we had an amazing up close and personal view of the animals!!! Of course there are viewing spots all over the resort so everyone can visit the animals, but this time we could see them right from our personal balcony. It was awesome and Isabella loved every moment of it!

This resort can literally cost thousands per a night depending on your room type, but thanks to smart hubby who decided we should look into becoming Disney Vacation Club members it was covered under our yearly points allotment! Honestly, we  never would’ve been able to afford this resort if we weren’t DVC members. I’ve spoken about being a DVC member on previous posts and I am in no way trying to sell you anything, but seriously if you love Disney then this truly is a special opportunity you should check into. We figured it out and this membership has already paid for itself easily 10 times now — it’s amazing!

Anyways, back to my post.  🙂  Every morning when Isabella woke up she’d ask us to take her out to the balcony to say ‘good morning’ to her animals. And then again in the evening we’d have to go out to say ‘good night’.

Although she loved the giraffes, zebras, and ostriches there was one special animal that she adored. That Silly Guy as she affectionately called him. He’s an Elind, but to her he was just that silly guy and he totally made her laugh every time she looked at him. He didn’t do much, just ate, slept, and walked around every so often. But he was always sitting outside our balcony waiting for her  she decided. She fell in love with seeing these creatures everyday and I know she misses them right now as she keeps asking me when we can go sleep at the Zoo again.
