My Crafty Valentine

Valentine 1

Some of my fondest holiday memories of growing up are doing art projects with my mom. She’s so creative and totally the Martha Stewart type — the woman can make curtains for crying out loud! So anyways, as a child my mom would always have us make Valentine’s Day cards for my grandparents who lived faraway. It was a special way for us to keep in touch with them and what grandparent doesn’t love a homemade craft from their grandkid, right!? My mom would get all kinds of art supplies — heart paper doilies, construction paper, glitter, markers / crayons, glue, etc. It was awesome and so messy — we loved every second of it!

And so now that my little one is old enough to really understand what we’re doing, I’m trying to start the same tradition w/ her. To say it was freaking awesome would be a huge understatement! The glitter was flying, the glue was stuck everywhere, and there were so many little heart stickers strewn all over the table. It was amazing! She had a blast and loved making Valentine’s for everyone while making a total mess at the same time w/o being told to be neat. As long as she’s having a good time and letting her creative juices flow then that’s all that matters to me.

In fact, her creative juices flowed so much that at one moment we were making Valentine’s and the next we were wearing Super Hero masks and chasing each other around the house. She was Ice Girl and I was Spide Girl. Sounds totally silly, but it was so much fun and we both had a great time! It’s these unplanned and silly moments that I want her to remember about her childhood. Someone once told me the days are long, but the years are short and that couldn’t be more true so I am cherishing every single one of these long days and short years.
